Public Services Assistant (part-time)

Hamilton East Public Library is currently accepting applications internally and externally for a part-time (average of 23 hours per week) Public Services Assistant to work primarily at the Fishers library. Employee may be asked to cover at the Noblesville building when there’s a need.

Successful candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule that goes on a 4-week repeating cycle (see below). Starting pay for this position is $14.56 per hour.

Mon. Cycle 1 and 3= 9:00-1:00 (4 hrs.) Cycle 2 and 4= 9:00-5:00 (8:30-4:30 if opening)

Wed.  3:00-8:00

Thurs. 9:00-5:00 (8:30-4:30 if opening)

Sat. Cycle 1 and 3:  9:00-2:00 (8:30-1:30 if opening)

Sun. Cycle 3:  12:00-6:00 (11:30-5:30 if opening)

This position provides customer service assistance and supports the library experience with the use of library materials, facilities, and equipment. We are seeking applicants who have demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service.

Essential Functions:

Work regular hours in the Fishers and Noblesville libraries.
Welcome visitors and provide HEPL hospitality in-person and remotely via phone and digital platforms.
Assist customers in account registration and maintenance.
Search standard print and online resources to answer reference questions and provide readers advisory services.
Monitor the library public computers, copiers, and associated resources and assist customers with questions and inquiries.
Collect fines & fees and prepare daily cash drawer and bank deposit as assigned.
Make & stock displays coordinated by the Librarians; support the library experience by tidying the library and readying it at opening and closing.
Assist in collection maintenance.
Support customer-centered programs, community events, and outreach services, which may be indoors or outdoors.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Six months of related library or customer service experience is preferred.
