Goshen Public Library is seeking a passionate individual to work as a full-time Librarian in our Children’s Department. The ideal candidate commits to serving Goshen’s diverse populations, provides educational support for children; and views the library as a place where information transforms lives.

General Responsibilities: 

• Assist library patrons of all ages with library services and resources, location of materials and use of online library tools
• Answer questions and provide readers’ advisory services
• Create and implement programming for children and families
• Assist with collection development and management including selection, maintenance and weeding
• Cooperate as a team member in performing duties essential to the achievement of efficient library operations

Children’s Librarian Responsibilities:

• Champion Early Literacy
• Understand basic principles of child development and apply this knowledge to working with children aged birth to 6th grade
• Create and implement programming for children from birth to 6th grade that is educational, entertaining, and enriching.
• Be a part of developing a children’s collection that promotes education and reflects the needs of our diverse community
• Be an ambassador for the library within the Goshen school system and the community
• Serve as team lead when required

Required Qualifications Are:

• ALA accredited MLS or MLIS
• Understanding of the role the public library plays in our community
• Desire to work with children
• Enthusiasm for public service and proactive customer service
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Basic computer skills
• Good organizational skills
• Attention to detail
• Leadership skills
• Knowledge of ECCR and early literacy practices

Preferred Qualifications Are: 

• Fluent in English and conversational Spanish
  Public or school library experience.

Flexibility in scheduling is necessary. Days, evenings, and weekends are required. This position will require successful completion of a background check.
