Tween/Teen Librarian

Full Time – 40 hours per week

Schedule:  Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; Tuesday 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM

Every six weeks: Saturday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with Friday off

Summary:

Serves as an advocate for the tween and teen audience by providing quality collection, program and outreach services to meet the needs of the library’s tween and teen patrons and to maintain the Young Adult and Tween sections of the library.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develops and maintains the Young Adult and Tween collections by reviewing, selecting, and weeding print and non-print materials to ensure a variety of current and appropriate materials are available for use.

Plans, implements, promotes, and presents programs throughout the year including outreach.

Works with the Sugar Creek Youth staff to ensure that the branch is providing appropriate tween and teen programming.

Collaborates and brainstorms with Youth Services staff to provide effective service to children, teens, and caregivers.

Regularly assists the department’s patrons in locating desired materials; provides reference and reader’s advisory help; is readily available to answer questions, conduct tours, and assist with equipment usage.

Performs various administrative duties, serves on special committees, provides input during the budget process, compiles various statistics and reports, and maintains effective communication and interaction with the Youth Services Manager and staff.

Maintains displays, and develops promotional materials to market tween and teen programs and materials.

Attends workshops and professional conferences and reads various professional journals and library listservs to keep current with library trends, developments and new technology. Responsible for a minimum of ten hours of continuing education each year. Attends staff and department meetings; may take meeting minutes.

Performs other functions assigned to position to ensure effective and smooth continuity of operations and transactions in the best interest of the library.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

Adhere to budget responsibilities as assigned by the Youth Services Manager; required to manage and maintain the quality of collections.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION:

Master’s degree (ALA-accredited MLS degree or equivalent).  Must possess or be able to acquire State of Indiana Librarian Certificate 3.

Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of: Microsoft Office Suite 2013 or newer; Comfortable modern Internet browsers as well as basic knowledge of email; Ability to work in a Mac and PC environment – basic computer troubleshooting skills is a plus; Mobile Devices including eReaders; Experience with an Integrated Library System (ILS) software preferred.

The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

The employee will occasionally move book carts up to 300 pounds.
