Pay: Salary starting at $41,808

Schedule:

Mon.-Wed. – 8-5 PM, Thurs. – 11-8 PM, Fri. – 8-5 PM

Weekends – every 6th week, Fri – off, Sat. – 8-5 PM, Sun. – 12-4 PM

Summary:

Works with Youth Services Manager to ensure that patrons of the youth areas have access to a well-rounded collection of materials. Responsible for arranging and presenting programs for the youth of the community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Develops and maintains the children’s collection by reviewing, selecting and weeding materials to ensure a variety of current and appropriate materials are available for use.

·         Plans, implements, and presents programs throughout the year, including outreach and regular storytimes.

·         Collaborates with Youth Services staff to provide effective service to patrons of the youth areas.

·         Regularly assists the department’s patrons in locating desired materials; provides reference and reader’s advisory help; is readily available to answer questions, conduct tours, and assist with equipment usage.

·         Designs and installs engaging displays throughout the Youth Services department.

·         Performs functions to keep department materials organized and presentable; reviews the shelves periodically to ensure that books are filed in correct order, shelves materials; reviews materials for damage and or replacement.

·         Carries out duties to ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of Youth Areas, maintaining a neat, organized, and welcoming environment.

·         Performs regular walkthroughs to ensure compliance with library policies and to support a safe and secure environment for all patrons.

·         Attends workshops and professional conferences and reads various professional journals and library listservs to keep current with library trends, developments and new technology.  Attends staff and department meetings; may take meeting minutes.

·         Performs other functions assigned to position to ensure effective and smooth continuity of operations and transactions in the best interest of the library.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

Adhere to budget responsibilities as assigned by the Youth Services Manager; required to manage and maintain the quality of collections.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:                          This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION:

Master’s degree (ALA-accredited MLS degree or equivalent).  Must possess or be able to acquire State of Indiana Librarian Certificate 3. Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of: Microsoft Office; Ability to work in a Mac and PC environment – basic computer troubleshooting skills is a plus; Mobile Devices including tablets; Experience with an Integrated Library System (ILS) software.  SirsiDynix preferred.

·         The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

·         The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

·         The employee will occasionally move book carts up to 300 pounds.
