Hamilton East Public Library is currently accepting applications internally and externally for a part-time (avg. 20 hrs. per week) Youth Services Assistant at the Fishers library. This is a year round position. Starting pay for this position is $14.56 per hour.  Must be able to work the following schedule (schedules are on a 4-week repeating cycle):

Cycle 1 and 3:

Monday 2-8
Wednesday 9-1
Friday 2-6

Cycle 2 and 4:

Monday 4-8
Wednesday 9-1
Friday 2-6
Saturday 9-5
Sunday 12-6

Summary:

This position provides customer service assistance and supports the library experience with the use of library materials, facilities and equipment.   We are seeking applicants who have demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service.

Essential Functions:

Welcome visitors and provide HEPL hospitality.
Assist customers in account registration and maintenance.
At the direction of the Assistant Manager, search standard reference materials, including online sources and the Internet, to answer patrons’ reference questions, and provide readers advisory services.
Monitor the library public computers, copiers, and associated resources and assist customers with questions and inquiries.
Collect fines & fees and prepare daily cash drawer and bank deposit as assigned.
Make & stock displays coordinated by the Librarians; support the library experience by tidying the library and readying it at opening and closing.
Assist in maintenance of designated collections as assigned.
Based on level of expertise, support customer-centered programs, community events and outreach services.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Six months of related library or customer service experience is preferred.

Technical – Proficiency in using computers and related software; experience with library management system software, including cataloging systems and public interface systems.
