Job Purpose
The position focuses on the development and implementation of outreach and programming promoting the relationships between the Library and area schools and students (PreK – 8th grades).
Essential Functions
Develops and coordinates outreach and services to students, schools, preschools, daycares and homeschoolers in the district
Initiates, develops, and maintain close working relationships with school librarians and teachers
Plans and presents informative programs
Performs collection management responsibilities in assigned areas
Tracks, analyzes, and reports data for school partners
Understands copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property and assisting students, staff, and administration with their understanding and observance of same
Develops collections that align with supporting homeschool, online learning, and traditional school learning and familiar with all collections and services we offer including readers advisory and information services with particular knowledge of school age youth literature and youth reader’s advisory
Develops and conducts library classes/events, community educational initiatives, and special events related to youth (Ages birth through 17 years), adding elements of technology into classes
Develops kits and delivers lessons and trainings for educators and students
Participates on planning committees
Provides marketing content and information classes/events and initiatives
Writes requests for proposals for grants, services, and programs
Attends conferences, workshops and training sessions as part of on-going professional development
Applies LPCPL’s customer service standards
(courtesy, professionalism, attitude, safety, quality)
Creates a safe and clean environment for customers and staff
Applies Code of Conduct policy consistently with all customers
Abides by established policies and procedures
Position Requirements
You have a Bachelor’s degree and/or a Master’s in Library Science with a focus on services to youth and service to schools or a valid certification in Library Science PK-12 from the Indiana Department of Education or the ability to obtain within 3 years; must maintain all certification requirements
You have experience working with teachers and/or children in a school or public library setting
You use creativity and innovation in planning and conducting classes and events
You use good judgement when making independent decisions
You have the ability to organize multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines
You are comfortable and confident working in an environment with a variety of hardware devices and software products, and willingness to learn new technologies
You welcome working with all people from your community
You are positive, adaptable, and forward thinking
You display appropriate demeanor at all times; this includes dress, body language, and facial expressions
You can organize materials alphabetically and numerically
You have a valid Indiana driver’s license and travels around La Porte County to schools

Physical Requirements/Work Environment
Office environment; exposure to materials returned in unfavorable conditions, occasional exposure to outside weather conditions, odor, noise, heat and cold
Occasionally drives a variety of company vehicles to all locations and scheduled stops
Mobility: Frequently lifts and carries 10-50 pounds; occasionally pushes/pulls up to 50 pounds using cart; occasionally sits, stands, kneels, squats, bends, twists, grasps, and reaches above shoulders to move materials
Vision abilities include: close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
Must be able to respond to fire alarms, warning sirens, and phone pages
