Leap into Science – Program Requirements

Leap into Science is a nationwide program developed by The Franklin Institute Science Museum that integrates open-ended science activities with children’s books, designed for children ages 3-10 and their families. The program empowers educators to offer workshops in community settings like libraries, museums, and out-of-school time programs to engage underserved audiences in accessible and familiar settings.

Registering for and attending this training makes you a Partner Organization.

Organizations are asked to send a minimum of 2, and a maximum of 3 staff members to these trainings.  Having multiple trainees at each organization ensures both internal support and continuation of the program should a trainee leave their organization.  If your organization is too small to train multiple staff, we encourage you to reach out to other community organizations to find partners.

As a Leap into Science partner organization, you are committing to:

  • Scheduling and leading at least three (3) Leap into Science virtual or in-person workshops for children and families by September 2021.
  • Posting each workshop to The Connectory, a searchable directory for STEM programs across the country.
  • Leading Leap into Science activities during National Leap into Science Week (June 7-13, 2021)
  • Completing a workshop report following each workshop.
  • Participating in quarterly calls with other trained educators in your state.

Each organization who participates in Leap into Science will receive:

  • A virtual training on high-quality science and literacy curriculum and facilitation strategies for two to three  educators from you organization
  • Ongoing support during program implementation as part of a Leap into Science National Network
  • Access to the national Leap into Science leadership team and online resources
  • A curriculum and materials kit (available to new Leap into Science organizations; past kit recipients not eligible)
  • Web-based training on past and new curriculum themes in subsequent years
This session is 2 hours and will be worth 2 Library Education Units (LEUs) for Indiana public library staff.
Leap into Science is funded by National Science Foundation, and led by The Franklin Institute and The National Girls Collaborative Project.
